Dear Dillard Middle School Families,

Dillard Middle School will be closed for students on Friday, September 4, 2026 so the building can receive additional pest-control treatment for fire ants.

Dillard Staff will report to other school sites.

This closure is necessary to allow our service provider to thoroughly treat the campus and announce the 72 Hour Notice of a nonscheduled Pesticide treatment per Board Policy 9205. 

As a precaution, traps have already been placed throughout the building to help prevent the ants from spreading. The school was also previously treated both inside and outside on July 15, 2026. 

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we work to provide a clean and safe learning environment. Dillard Middle School will resume school on a regular schedule on Tuesday, September 8th, 2026. Families will be notified promptly, if there are any changes.

On Monday morning, Superintendent Stokes boarded a school bus and traveled alongside students on one of the district’s newly implemented tiered transportation routes. The experience provided an opportunity to see firsthand how the new transportation model was working and, more importantly, to experience the start of the school day from a student's perspective.

“As Superintendent, I did not want to experience the first day of school only from the Central Office. I wanted to experience it alongside our students,” Stokes said. “For many of our students, their school day begins the moment they step onto the bus. If we are going to make decisions that impact their experience, it is important that we understand that experience firsthand.”
