    Kellie Smith - 2020 SES TOY

    Congratulations to Kellie Smith, our 2020 South Elementary Teacher of the Year.  Ms. Smith is a native of Caswell County and a Bartlett Yancey graduate.  She graduated from Averett University with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and is certified as a Reading Specialist.  She is the mother of 2 children, Karlie and Colton. She has taught at South for 11 years.  She is currently teaching 2nd grade, but has taught Kindergarten, First Grade, 3rd Grade and served as a reading specialist.  She exhibits a true passion for her students.When asked what her favorite moments as a teacher are, she responded, "Teaching is a rewarding profession. Seeing a child's face light up when he or she gains understanding of a concept is my greatest reward.  When my students enter my room, I want them to feel loved, comfortable and secure."  We are honored that Ms. Smith is a SOUTH EAGLE.  She is one of the main reasons that our EAGLES SOAR!

  • Geneive Jones - 2020 SES CEOY

    We would like to congratulate Mrs, Geneive Jones as our 2020 Classified Employee of the Year.  Mrs. Jones has been a Teacher's Assistant at South for 22 years.  She currently is a Kindergarten Assistant and LLI tutor.  She is originally from Pittsburgh, PA, but has lived in this area since 1995.  She indicated she has always loved working with children of all ages whether she coaching, teching, tutoring or doing craft activities.  When asked what she enjoys the most about South, she said, "What I love most about being a South Eagle is the dedication that I see go into the day to day instruction and learning, not to mention seeing all of those smiling faces on our students."  We are grateful that Mrs. Jones is a South Eagle.  She truly makes a difference in the lives of our children.

  • Congratulations to Mrs. Leslie Blackwood, our 2020 Beginning Teacher of the Year.  Mrs. Blackwood is in her 3rd year as a teacher at South, currently teaching 1st grade.  Prior to this year, she taught 2nd Grade for 2 years.  A 2017 graduate of Elon University, Mrs. Blackwood is an exceptional teacher who is well-organized and passionate about teaching.  When asked about her experiences at South, Mrs. Blackwood replied, "I love teaching at South Elementary.  We have a wonderful school with an awesome staff and group of students. My favorite things about teachig is seeing my students'  'light bulbs' go off.  Every day is full of something new".  We are grateful that Mrs. Blackwood is a part of oue EAGLE family.  She is a main reason South EAGLES SOAR!Leslie Blackwood 2020 SES BTOY
