As your instructor, I will make every effort to respond to your request for assistance or information within 24 hours. I will not respond after 8:00pm at night. Google Chat if you need to text me, I will not respond to text messages or any other type of messaging program.
Method of Instruction and Course Delivery:
This is an in-person and online class. All assignments are posted on Canvas. Students will respond on Canvas. Assignments will be submitted in writing, Word document, or Google Doc. All assignment due dates are posted on Canvas. If there is an emergency, you will need to contact the instructor and arrangements can be made. If assignments are not turned in on time, there is a penalty for late assignments.
- You will have 2 school days to turn it in without a penalty.
- Any work turned in after the 2nd day, the highest grade given will be a70.
Course Description:
In Public Safety I students will be getting certified in NIMS 100, 200, 300, & 400. We will be learning about different Public Safety Careers. Law enforcement, EMS, Fire, the court system, military and any other careers that are of interest to students.
In Public Safety II we will be getting NC C.E.R.T. certified and Lapsan 911- Telecommunicator Certified.
Both classes will explore careers in public safety.
Textbook: All books will be provided at school for the students and PDF versions will be in Canvas for the students.
Technology:
Your school issued Chromebook. (Please make sure it is charged and that you have your charger with you.) If you have lost it, tell Ms. Woods. If not charged or no charger, you will lose 5 points on classroom assignment of the day.
Class Change:
You may submit a class change form to Guidance if you feel the need to change classes. Please check for dates from guidance. You should have received an email from guidance that has a Google Form link.
Inclement Weather/School Closing:
If school is closed and it is deemed a “remote lesson day”, an assignment will be posted in Canvas for you to do. It will be in the Inclement Weather Module. If you do not have internet access or power, you will have five (5) school days to turn the assignment. Time starts from the first day school is back on campus. Assignments received after five school days, the highest grade you can receive will be a 70. You must inform me that you do not have the internet or power, via Google Chat or phone email.
Course Outline:
Will be provided during the first week of class.
HOW TO BE SUCESSFUL IN THIS CLASS:
- Be prompt – Get to class on time, Turn in work on time.
- Pay attention so you know what is going on.
- Ask questions.
- Be RESPECTFUL & PROFESSIONAL to all participants & instructors.
Grading Information:
90 – 100 A Excellent
80 – 89 B Above Average
70 – 79 C Average
60 – 69 D Below Average
0 – 59 F Failure
For an assignment to be on time, it must be turned in by midnight of the date due.
ASSIGNMENTS TURNED IN AFTER THE DUE:
- You will have 2 school days to turn it in without a penalty.
