Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Ashley Clowers
I'm Mrs. Clowers, and I teach Family and Consumer Sciences classes here at N.L. Dillard Middle School. I graduated from East Carolina University in the spring of 2008, and I started my career as a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher at Bartlett Yancey High School in the fall of 2008. I have taught in Caswell County since then.
6th Grade: Exploring Careers
In the 6th grade, my students get to learn about many jobs, occupations, and careers that exist. They then learn how to choose a job, occupation, or career that is right for them based on their interests, skills, abilities, knowledge, and talents. Last, they learn how to prepare for, and hopefully one day get, the job, occupation, or career they are most interested in.
7th Grade: Exploring Apparel and Interior Design
In the 7th grade, my students learn about equipment used for sewing and basic sewing techniques. They also learn about shopping for clothing and caring for apparel in the Apparel portion of the class. In the Interior Design portion of the class, they learn about the different types of homes they have to choose from, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each type of home. They then learn how to create a floor plan and decorate the interior space using the elements of design and principles of design. We also discuss reducing, reusing, and recycling for both sections of the class.
8th Grade: Exploring Nutrition and Wellness
In the 8th grade, my students learn about equipment used for preparing, cooking, and serving food. Students also learn about kitchen safety, food safety, and sanitation as they practice preparing, cooking, and serving food. Nutrition, eating healthy, and living a healthy lifestyle is also taught, following guidance from MyPlate.
If you or your student is enrolled in any of my classes, check out Canvas to see what we have learned and are currently learning.
