Mr. Richard Johnson

    I have been teaching at Dillard Middle School since 1993, when I began at the old Dillard. 

    My degrees are in Political Science, History, Social Science Education and a Masters in Gifted Education. I earned them from Western Carolina University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Elon University. I also have my National Boards in Early Adolescence. 

    In the summers I work for the National Park Service at the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park designing curriculum related to the history of jazz and roots music.

                                                    CURRENT WORK

    We are working on a unit called EARLY EXPLORATION AND SETTLEMENT.

    Students are currently working on the assignment INTERACTIVE JAMESTOWN.

    They are doing it in class the week of October 25-29.

    I have also posted it under CLASS HANDOUTS.

    The DEADLINE to turn it in is November 08.

    The week of November 01-05 we will look at THE LOST COLONY. See the handout page for work on LOST COLONY THEORIES. Students started this on the week of 10-18 to 22. We will complete it after completing of the JAMESTOWN work. The deadline for the LOST COLONY THEORY sheet is also November 08.

    We will then spend a day or two of Settlement of NC by doing a reading together, then having a quiz on the reading.

    I will then review with the students. They will be given a TEST STUDY GUIDE. We will then test on the unit.
