Oakwood Elementary School Counseling Program
The 5 Parts of Oakwood Elementary's School Counseling Program:1) Weekly Guidance Classes
Every week, each class attends guidance as a part of their enhancement schedule.
In guidance, students learn about:
emotions and the connection between feelings and actions
calming down strategies
how to navigate social conflicts
strategies for being successful in school
setting and achieving goals
exploring various careers
2) Groups
Some students who would benefit from more individualized instruction will participate in groups that educate students in similar topics to those taught in classroom guidance.
3) Individual Counseling
Students who would like to speak with me about personal matters or students who are not comfortable working in groups may work with me on an individual basis.
4) Parent Support
I am available to work with all parents or guardians who would like to discuss a concern they have about their child. My goal is to team with families to find resources and strategies that help students be their best selves at school and at home.
5) Schoolwide Initiatives
Throughout the year, I will work to encourage schoolwide efforts to support our students social, emotional, academic, and career needs. This may include character education in classroom guidance, working with staff to bring classroom guidance learning into the classrooms, service learning projects, a career day, etc.
